Upon a recent visit to George Town in which she was impressed by Penang’s commitment to protecting and enhancing the town’s physical and cultural assets, Violet Yong, Sarawak State Assembly member, suggested that the Sarawak Government set up a Government-linked corporate body entrusted with heritage conservation, along the lines of George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI),
“We can follow Penang by setting up a government-linked company like GTWHI as we also have our own unique cultural heritage”, portalkini.net reports her saying. She argued that Sarawak has so far engaged only limited efforts preserving its in cultural heritage.
