On 29th March, members of SHS gave a briefing on the history & heritage of the Petanak and Blacksmith Road area of Kuching to a group of thirty-six Architecture undergraduates and lecturers from the Faculty of Built Environment, UNIMAS (Universiti Malaysia Sarawak), led by Dean Prof Ar NurAkmal. Afterwards the students were led on an observation stroll of the area, as part of their assignment. The area was once home to a Henghua fishing village as well as dozens of Blacksmith businesses, mostly run by Hakka. There was also a temple, multiple jetties, an ice factory, an abattoir and even a sewage treatment unit among other facilities.
This field visit was followed by on 1 April by a meeting of SHS Exco members with Dean Prof Ar NurAkmal and members of the UNIMAS Faculty of Built Environment to further explore collaboration opportunities between SHS and UNIMAS.
