The idea of a covered arcade for India Street emerged in 2010. A RM4.3 million budget from the State Government has been set aside and an India Street Pedestrian Mall Committee set up for this project aiming at giving India Street a ‘modern shopping-arcade outlook’. The Committee chairman mentioned in early September 2014 that an open tender was to be called soon and that details will be shared upon award. The Star article of 08 Feb. The project has been diversely welcomed by the India Street business community and by members of the public. Concerns have been expressed  that the design would affect the heritage value of India Street. Make your opinion… Comments on this post are welcome.
